BMW 3 Series Lower Control Arm & Bushing Problem

by admin on August 16, 2010

We recently had a 10 year old BMW 3 series come through with some clunking noises that would occur during take off and also was having vibration issues at high speeds.   After inspecting the car we discovered that the rear bushings on the front control arms were worn out.   This is a common problem from many makes and models especially with high miles.   The best solution in this case was to go ahead and replace both of the lower control arms and bushings all together.  Both the clunking noise and the vibration problem stopped and the car is riding smooth again.

The picture on the right is of the old lower control arms.  It’s hard to tell from this picture but the problem often is caused by worn out bushings and break down in the moving parts of the that are associated with the lower control arms.
